What's a Photo Shuttle, anyway?

Photo Shuttle is a resource for picture researchers, art directors and photo editors worldwide.

Smaller than a traditional photo agency, but more than one photographer's work, it is a photo service with an emphasis on images of Japan. The archives of Photo Shuttle: Japan alone contain 40,000 original 35mm transparencies and b&w photos, catalogued and available for licensing . Photo Shuttle is currently based in Chapel Hill, NC. A network of photographers in Japan is available to shoot assignments; Sonia Katchian, in NC, is available for assignments worldwide. She will negotiate your photo shoot in Japan, in NC, and points in between.

A Brief History: Photo Shuttle started with a fascination for things Japanese, and soon turned into Sonia's life-long pursuit to bring non-cliche Japanese imagery to U.S. media. With increased trips between New York City and Tokyo, the business was christened Photo Shuttle: Japan. That was in 1982.

When the "Shuttle" landed in NC in 1993, it became Photo Shuttle to reflect the entirety of Sonia's work.

Photo Shuttle is dedicated to professional photo production and licensing. Sonia has been a member of professional photo organizations for 30 years, including ASMP, EP and NPPA in the U.S., and the FCCJ in Japan.
